Featured Story

"I have been attending Planned Parenthood for my birth control needs since 2006. In October 2008 when I had my last check up, my nurse practitioner prescribed me a 1 year prescription of Ortho Evra for me to fill through my mail order program. Everything was going fine until I went to refill my medication the first week of January. Turns out for
2009 my insurance company decided to drop coverage of Ortho Evra and was requiring me to pay $150 instead of my regular copay of $40 for a 3 month supply. With only one week of birth control left, I was panicking. I immediately changed my health insurance which required a new prescription
be sent to them in order for them to start a mail order for me. They
stated thatif my Doctor's office faxed it in it would take 2-3 days to
even get into the system then be filled and then delivered to me
which could take 10-15 days. This would mean I wouldn't be able
to resume my birth control on time and would have to start all over
again and wait a month before the medication would be back in my system.

I immediately called Planned Parenthood. It was around 4:30PM in the afternoon on a day Planned Parenthood usually closes at 5:00PM. A pleasant lady named Karen answered the phone. I briefly explained my situation to her and the urgency for the need for this medication as soon as possible. She asked me for the number for my insurance and stated she would call me back. In less than 20 minutes she called me back and informed me that she had called me insurance company, gave them my prescription information and that everything was taken care of. The next day I had a shipping confirmation for my birth control stating it had been shipped!

I cannot explain how much of a relief this is to me. The thought of getting off my birth control schedule, having to take time off to come into the office to figure out how long I have to wait before the medication would be in my system- just possibly having to start all over again was frightening. I'm still in shock that even though I called in
so late in the day Karen took the time to call my insurance company and take care of my prescription information for me. Being that it was almost 5:00PM I know she had to have dropped everything in order to call in my prescription. If it wasn't for Karen taking the time to take care of what really was an 'emergency' for me, than I probably wouldn't have had my medication in time.

I cannot recall receiving the same type of customer service from even my primary care physician. I just wanted to send an email to let whomever know that I REALLY appreciate the promptness and concern that I received when it came to a matter that was really important to me. Karen really deserves some kudos or at least pat on the back for showing what customer service really is.

Thanks for everything Planned Parenthood!"
